What's Leftover?
Raindrops in driveway cracks after the night.
Sounds of the washing maching machine turning to on.
Text message from yesterday.
Black sunflower seed shells beneath the bird feeder.
Pants, shirt and Amalia's purple boots passed on.
Light after the darkness.
2012 yesterday's thoughts now today.
You and Me.
That's what's leftover.

What's Leftover
I. I am Leftover and it feels good. Without a direction,
without a thought, without a place to go, without a
"thing" to do, I am. And I am happy about it.
Not bad a feeling for the day. Not a bad place
"to be" for the ending of the year. Not a care in
this moment. And that is what I am wishing for everyone
and for those I love! No more. No less. That's what's
leftover for NOW.

What's Leftover?
I asked Santa in December of 2011 to send me more love than I could imagine. So he did. His name is Thomas Aquinas Cahill. Together, with Tom, I have twice as much love to give and twice as much of myself to share! So thank you Santa Claus! Love from Penny Cahill-Sinone

CANS FOR ART
It's easy, it's fun, it's productive. Diving for cans.
It's the best way I know how to fund my next venture
"Geriatricks", a one woman show concerned with the joys
of aging in a society where wrinkles, sagging skin and
other changes in the female form are not celebrated as
part of transition but as a consequence of "dying off".
Just as leaves change their color and form during the fall
of each passing year, so do we all! I saw embrace this change,
find laughter in this moment and celebrate the miracle that
"we've come a long way baby"!
Be on the lookout for more news regarding this project,
"Geriatricks", and future works produced by Dirty Sally
Productions.

Recycle
the Vote
(You CAN do it!)
By Cam and Candy Canister
The Supreme Court's decision to open the floodgates of
unlimited anonymous campaign contributions has created a feeling of doom on the
left in regard to the President's ability to compete in the money wars of
campaign advertising. Indeed, the Romney campaign has won the last few cycles
and is presently out spending the President's operation at a three to one
ratio.
Most of the Obama money is coming from people who earn less in a lifetime than Sheldon Adelson will rake in from one good round of baccarat at the Venetian Resorts Casino. Before depression sets in one should take into account a few things.
We know the billionaires have more dollars, but those little one, three, five and twenty five dollar donations of ours add up. Simply put, dollars don't vote, people do and there are more of us than there are billionaires. Much to the chagrin of Governor Romney corporations are NOT people. Still, the message needs trumpeting and that takes a horn section and too many of us are tapped out, laid off and wrung dry to play another note.
Take heart ye weary minstrels. Newer reeds await. The Kochs and The Adelsons may be purveyors of Dom Perignon and Monet de Chandon but we are the Legions of soda pop and lager beer.
Alderson bankrolls casinos, we stock pile precious metals. Aluminum to be precise.
On a recent journey to the scrap metal yard to redeem some cans for the purposes of subsidizing an art project, we were surprised to learn that our bounty of 111 pounds returned $71.00. It got us thinking. Previously we would just leave a few cans in a box by the side walk for the city to take. We realized no cash reward but we did realize the satisfaction of contributing to a sounder environment. Our ability to contribute to the campaign had previously been somewhat muted, but our desire wasn't. Why not contribute to the campaign and the environment simultaneously? Surely we are not alone. There must be others. We can mobilize. We Can. YES YOU CAN TOO!
Cans are everywhere, unfortunately too many litter the sides of our national highways. Pick'em up-turn'em in- and make your donation. Have can collection crush parties. Crush cans while crushing the competition. Create a Sign In Book (Don't buy one- use the other side of previously used papers- we don't waste). Have a Festival of Cans and crown a King and Queen of Cannery Row. Give math lessons to kids using cans-they do add up. Have a Can- Can dance competition with the entry fee being X amounts of cans, the winner has the donation made in their name. Keep a list of contributors and acknowledge them. Carry an extra bag on your walk home and if you see a stray can or two- snag them.
It's not just soda pop and beer cans though. Any aluminum will do. Scrap metal centers pay by the weight so old aluminum foils and cooking tins have value too. Cook your roast and help cook Mitt's goose.
(Cam and Candy Cannister migrate between New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico creating art and making soup. Cam holds a post graduate degree from the University of Huevos Rancheros and Candy's new novel "Oh ,Deliver Me- The Autobiography of a Pizza" will be available in the spring from Puppo Publications.)

CANS to fund next performance
Aluminum cans. They're everywhere for the taking and that
is exactly what I am doing. Be on the lookout for me in
your neighborhood between six and nine am. I am the one
carrying the large, black, plastic bag. I walk quickly so as
to snag as many cans as possible, in a short time, before
someone else beats me to it (not mentioning any names here).
I will be doing this for one year in order to fund my next show
O.A. D.O.G! or Old Age Depends On GeriaTricks!
If you are interested in donating soda or beer cans, please
let me know. Friends have been dropping bags of cans
in my yard! Every can helps.

What's Leftover?

A trail of thirty days littered with "to go menus",an empty rental, a badge without the key, Dorothy's thank you card, legend about a Tilapia, HEADLINES of aliens and alienation, signs without protestors, writings on walls, expressions of discontent, echos of accolades for Senator Papen whose tear dropped on the Senate Floor, a wrinkled bologne wrapper, an empty House, desolate parking lots, a Savage dream and the feel of a lovely smile.
"Don't worry about it", he said.
Yes. Don't worry about it. Let's celebrate what's leftover. In all sizes, shapes, colors- each of us carrying our own flag, our own devotion. Each of us a piece of the leftover. Yes. You're leftover. I'm leftover. Their leftover. WE'RE leftover.
Yes. Let's celebrate.

"We ALL do better when We ALL do better".
I believe this. I think that this is true. How about you?OCCUPY New York, Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, PA.; Los Angeles, California; Santa Fe. New Mexico; Europe, Asia, Africa, THE WORLD! This month has been a time for occupation indeed. As the leaves fall around us, our physical world is transcending. We watch. We witness the palette of colors. We feel the air as it touches our skin. For some of us who are absorbed in thoughts of occupation as we move in and out of parks, state buildings, sidewalks and streets, this is a time for change. It is a necessity. It is as though a wave is slowly moving, heading towards us and we must choose- run away, go with it, lay down and drown. We are preoccupied with a choice.
I am not a particularly fabulous writer, nor thinker, nor actor. But one thing I know for sure.
I feel better when my community feels better; when we all have food to eat; when we all have opportunities to read, to learn, to live in a safe and healing environment. When we all can share our thoughts and feelings without threat of punishment; when we all love and feel that love in return. For me this means that we, meaning all one hundred percent of us, are a community. When all one hundred percent of us shows up for this communal living! When all one hundred percent of us has the same opportunities for liberty and the pursuit of happiness. When we all do better because we all do better.

What's Leftover?
Thursday, August 4th,
What's leftover from the birthday celebration? Words from the Tenement Museum's Tour Guide, "...and the children went down the back stairs, two flights to the out house which was next to the single well across from the bar and waited their turn ( there were 22 families in their house); smells from a world's best pizza, dreams of bodies entwined at the Joyce Theatre's presentation of Pilobolus, a slight headache from the after hours party with Jimmy and his sweetheart, Tanya, and echos of Tom's birthday song. Best of all, what's leftover is me and you, my friends after sixty one years! I am grateful we are in the same world.

What's Leftover? Mrs. Mayfair! And you can hear all about here at the
Filling Station Theatre's SoloFest "3-1" starting July 8th, 2011.
I am excited to have been asked to return to this festival.
The owners of the Filling Station Theatre, David and Beth, are committed
to bringing innovative theatre to New Mexico. David and Beth have
dedicated this festival to giving local performers a "chance and a space" to present
monologue performances (a wonderful opportunity in an area where there
are not too many places available). Thanks David and Beth!
Hope I'll see you there! I will be performing on Sunday, July 10th at 5:00PM
and on Saturday, July 16th at 8:00 PM

Remembering Miss Pearl
Wednesday, May 11th, 2011
Miss Pearl Foster walked away from her shell yesterday. What
she left behind are many stories of her "antics". Miss Sam Waidler
will never forget the Chocolate Maven 21st birthday cake that
Miss Pearl discovered BEFORE the party began. Linda remembers the lovely white hairs and remnants of daisies that Miss Pearl so creatively left behind on the porch, the lawn, etc. and the many times that Ritz (who now rests next to Pearl) and Miss Pearl romped in the dirt, on the lawn, down the driveway looking for adventures. Hillary and Pascal chuckle at the white dog who resembled their "Mambo". Seems Miss Pearl broke into their house, ate a five pound bag of dog food and then escaped through the dog door. And then there is the Tom story of waking up quite early in the morning by kisses only to discover that it was Miss Pearl demanding a walk-at six am. Evelyn says "she gave me more love and a scare when I went to feed her and thought she was kidnapped only to discover Miss Pearl had opened the door, let herself in and ate everything she could find . " But my favorite remembrance is that of Miss Pearl taking a stroll through the acequia, leading the other dogs (The Bart Lewis Gang) as though she were the Queen on the Mesa De Puleo. Yes, she might have left her shell but what remains is a legend of a creature who was gentle, ferocious in her quest for food, acceptance of other creatures and most of all - generous in her acceptance of me. Tolerant of my monologue rehearsals in which she was the ONLY audience member. Forgiving of my odd habits. Always willing to "get up and go" on a moment's notice. Never running away from my laugh (which is known to be very loud). Most of all, generous with her love which seemed to have no end. Yes, I'll miss her physical presence. Yes, I am grateful that she taught me how to be a better friend (and yikes, did I ever need some lessons). But I know I will grin whenever I hear a paper bag rustle for I'll know it's an angel called Miss Pearl Foster in search of one last treat!

What's leftover?
What's leftover are thoughts of friends who have "transcended"
this lifetime- but have left behind everlasting words: Joe Manuel's booming voice as he chided me (which he did often) "... don't sweat the small stuff and make it bigger stuff"; a memory of Mary Branham's red hair, silver jewels, black suit and mischievous laughter as she walked away from me and her Mexican friend, Rico (at a famous Mexican ruin)saying, "...I've already done it once, but if you want to climb up 'The Moon'- go right ahead!"; Momma's threats to us when we'd ignore her, "...and don't send me flowers when I'm dead because they're not going to do me any good THEN."; my sweet other mother, Mary Buckley who would look me straight in the eye, shaking her head, "...you're so goofy Pen but don't ever change, okay?" and last, but not least, Shirley Salazar my dear, dear Oakie buddy who smoked like a feind, drank margaritas with gusto and danced like there was no tomorrow- "...and I don't give a damn if I'm crazy Pen cause I've had so much fun gittin' there girlfriend."
Still smiling from your words after all these years my friends. That's what's leftover. Me and You! Happy Mother's Day to every kind of mother every where!

What goes UP must come DOWN
Spinning Wheels got to go round...
Back on the ground again from a ride on the FerrisWheel with Steven Schlam...memories of
an opening night, figs on a cheese plate, laughter in the studio, red roses from the Bart Lewis
Gang (Puppo, Miss Pearl and Mr. Tuff) a sweet man named Thomas in a wool cap sneaking past the kitchen window, ashes in the wood stove, an empty paint chipped glider, hangers on the studio wall where once there were flowers framed in pine , an empty cabernet bottle, gummy bears spilling from the plastic bag in an oblong box, promises of a future show with Linda Storm, petals from Evelyn's bouquet scattered on the wooden table, a wrinkled tan skirt, a vintage handbag covered with fingerprints, a can quarter- filled with sun tan lotion AND and a smile though my heart is broken! That's what's leftover thanks to Maura Dhu Studi!
Oh, almost forgot (whew) ...YOU! That's who else is leftover. Yea.

New players in town!
A new group of actors, the Washboard Road Players, will be performing
in March, 11-13th at the El Museo Cultural. The evening of one act
plays, directed by the respected Maura dhu Studi, will offer themes
of love, titled, "Ones from the Heart".
This accomplished cast of actors, Rick Vasquez, Deborah Hayden,
Sylvie Obledo, Penny Sinone, Hillary Elliot, Magdalyn , Rob and
Steven Schlam, are no strangers to the stage. Each has participated,
in some fashion, to the life of the theatre.
This showcase features the work of a year long, in some cases, two year
study with the director.
What's leftover?
Candle wax on the window, silky white hairs from sleeping dog on the studio
rug, marshmello ice on the patio bricks leftover from the storm, remnants
of tea bag used five times, echoes of Hillary's voice, "That damn bag......."
Memories of Jimmy Cahalan before he transcended this life, prayer flags
gently flapping in the breeze, a coupon flyer in the driveway, ashes in the
wood stove; an unanswered prayer and a missed text, stamps before the
last rate hike and a sore butt from spinning class. What's leftover is you.
What's leftover is me.

What's Leftover? Leaves of red, browns, golds like the sun, moon thru the clouds, bells of laughter still ringing from Dan Hoyle's captivating performance of his monologue, "Angry American's"at the Lensic Theatre in Santa Fe; a cold cup of tea, pineapple upside down cake in the refrigerator, thoughts about yesterday today, a memory of of Miss E,
one hundred two years of age, exclaiming "I can afford to be funny", a found photograph of a young man smiling goodbye. What's leftover is you. What's leftover is me.

Piojo Rojo wears Dirty Sally's Design!
September 4th, 2010....
What's leftover? Yikes! Me.
I'm leftover. I made it. You see. I was in my house in the Dumps of Glory when I saw this t shirt floating by after the rains. It got pretty clean from the rain so I decided to jump on it and take a little ride. I liked the shirt soooo much that I'm still on it.
Then my friend, Dirty Sally, a designer, saw me on it and she said, "Piojo Rojo! You look wonderful! Yes. I will make a picture of you."
And she did. You know, Dirty Sally draws everything, she draws everybody (learn about her and me in the book, The DumpChronicles). You better watch out or she'll draw you too!
Take a look. Her T-Shirts can express a feeling of certainty. And she knows because hey- she's leftover too.
