What's leftover from the birthday celebration? Words from the Tenement Museum's Tour Guide, "...and the children went down the back stairs, two flights to the out house which was next to the single well across from the bar and waited their turn ( there were 22 families in their house); smells from a world's best pizza, dreams of bodies entwined at the Joyce Theatre's presentation of Pilobolus, a slight headache from the after hours party with Jimmy and his sweetheart, Tanya, and echos of Tom's birthday song. Best of all, what's leftover is me and you, my friends after sixty one years! I am grateful we are in the same world.
Hi! I'm Dirty Sally BUT I'm not really dirty after all. People just say I am because of what they think they see.
It happened one day in early Spring when I was at the dump in Santa Fe, New Mexico, cleaning artifacts for T.D., my trash detective friend. I was sitting on top of an old refrigerator, dusting a letter that I had found and was about to record it for T.D's Leftover Archives-2000 Santa Fe site- when I heard someone say: "Hey, what's she doing over there?"
Then another voice answered, "You mean, Dirty Sally over there?" The first voice replied, "Yes, what's she doing- why do you call her Dirty Sally?"
The first person laughed and said, "Oh, because she's dirty. Why else would she be sitting there on that dirty refrigerator in the dump?" I heard people laughing and I thought, WOW, that's just great. I love to make people laugh.
So from that day on when people ask me who I am I say, "Hi, I'm called Dirty Sally" (even if I'm not dirty after all).
